Discovering parallels through activity center

Activity Overview

In this activity, students will draw lines through points the teacher plots in activity center. Using the points of the lines, the students will determine whether or not the lines are parallel.

During the Activity

The teacher will plot points on one of the selected pictures. For example, on the blue angles pic, the teacher will plot two points on two of the blue angles. When the activity is started, the students will have the points on their calculators. They will figure the slope of the lines and determine if the lines are parallel.

After the Activity

An alternative to this activity is for the teacher to draw a line through part of the picture (i.e. one of the blue angles) and have the students figure an equation that will produce a line that passes through another part of the picture (another blue angel).
