Wrapping It All Up

Activity Overview

Students recognize the effects of changes in parameters on the graphs of linear, quadratic, and exponential functions.

Before the Activity

Install the Transformation Graphing application on the students' graphing calculators using one of these two methods:

  • TI-Connect™,  a TI Connectivity Cable, and the Unit-to-Unit Link Cable
  • TI-Navigator™  "send to class" feature
  • Load the Trans8 program on the calculator
  • See the attached PDF file for detailed instructions for this activity
  • Print pages 101 - 107 from the attached PDF file for your class
  • During the Activity

    Distribute the pages to the class.

    Follow the Activity procedures:

  • Set up a scatter plot for the data set
  • Write the equation for the line model that matches the scatter plot
  • Repeat the steps for quadratic and exponential functions
  • Plot graphs for all three types of functions simultaneously and record the number of points ?hit?
  • After the Activity

    Students will complete the Student Worksheet and answer questions listed on it.

    Review student results:

  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
