Getting Started with the TI-Navigator™ System: Exploring Compound Interest

Activity Overview

This lesson introduces students to Activity Center and allows them to explore the effect of compound interest on the amount of an investment over time.

Students will work in small groups (or individually) to calculate account balances for a range of years.
This activity will explore the idea of exponential growth recursively.

Before the Activity

  • Set up your TI-Navigator System
  • Make sure you are familiar with the basic functions of TI-Navigator: Send to Class, Collect from Class, Screen Capture, Quick Poll, and Activity Center

  • During the Activity

    Students will:

  • Use symbolic expressions, including iterative and recursive forms, to represent relationships arising from various contexts.
  • After the Activity

    Assess your students' understanding by using Send to Class, LearningCheck™ and Class Analysis.
