Students will measure the circumference of their fist and list their shoe size. The lists will be loaded using TI-Navigator™ in the activity center.
Before the Activity
The students need to know the concept of slope before doing this exercise. If they know how to write equations, it will extend the activity.
During the Activity
Load the activity settings attached. Once everyone has sent their list, you can send the completed list back to the students. I have let kids get into groups and discuss what they think the relationship is between the two items. You may have them do a linear regression of the data to see what the slope represents.
After the Activity
I have the sent them home that day with the question of " Are there other relationships in terms of length comparing the human body?" It is interesting to hear all the possible combinations!
