## Skip Counting--2,4,6,8, Who Do We Appreciate?

#### Activity Overview

In this activity, students explore skip counting to enhance their understanding of multiplication and pattern completion. They investigate how to complete patterns using the number line.

#### Before the Activity

• Access the NUMLINE application and select the Fraction Line option
• See the attached PDF file for detailed instructions for this activity
• Print pages 34 - 35 from the attached PDF file for your class

#### During the Activity

Distribute the pages to the class.

• Choose the start value and the step (value by which the next number increases)
• Observe on the number line the pattern of numbers for each step value that is selected
• Use number line application to complete the pattern where the next number is a multiple of the start value
• When the start value is neither 0 nor a multiple of the step value, patterns may not be multiples of the first number
• Similarly, use the NUMLINE application to complete other patterns
• #### After the Activity

Students complete the Student Activity sheet.

Review student results:

• As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
• Re-teach concepts as necessary
