In this activity, students practice simplifying fractions in a game format by dividing the numerator and denominator by the greatest common factor.
Before the Activity
Set up the calculator as explained in the activity

Print pages 11 - 14 from the attached PDF file for your class
During the Activity
Distribute the pages to the class.
Follow the Activity procedures:
Enter a fraction and recognize whether it is in its simplest form
Predict the greatest common factor of the numerator and denominator of a fraction and record it
Use the calculator to check the prediction
Earn points for a correct prediction
If the prediction is incorrect, guess again and verify using the calculator
Repeat the activity for different fractions
After the Activity
Students complete the Student Activity sheet.

As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
Re-teach concepts as necessary
