Transformation Graph Worksheet or Quiz

Activity Overview

Use TI Navigator to allow your students to create practice work and quizzes when studying graph transformations.

Before the Activity

If you are using the TI-Navigator System with the TI-73 you will need the attached .pdf file.
Students should know the general formulas for several basic functions and how to type them into their calclators. Examples:quadratic, linear, absolute value,...

During the Activity

Have your students connected to the Navigator system so you can capture their screens. Assign a particular type of function and have the students type in their version of it and graph it on their calculators. For example they might move it up 3 and to the right 4. Hopefully everyone will contribute a different version of the function. This can be done in the activity center by configuring to send one equation. When everyone has sent their equation, stop the activity, minimize the activity center window and use the screen capture button on the main toolbar. Pick 4 students and capture their screens. You should get their calculator screens on your big screen. Make sure your are not showing any names or equations on the screen. Now have the entire class write down what they think the four equations are for the graphs on the screen. Use this as practice or make it a quiz. The students enjoy creating their own assignments.

After the Activity

Review student answers:

  • As a class, discuss questions that appeared to be more challenging
  • Re-teach concepts as necessary
