Use Quick Poll with Slope and Y-Intercept

Activity Overview

When introducing slope and y-intercept to my students I find it helpful to change one variable, while holding the other constant. For example, I might show 2 graphs with identical y-intercepts, but differing slope, etc.

Before the Activity

Make sure students know how to respond to a quick poll. Review the attached documents for sample equations and screens.

During the Activity

Procedure:

  1. Students should enter Navnet
  2. Teacher verbally prepares quickpoll question such as "What is the slope and y-intercept of the following equation?" and types into the open field "y = -3x + 19".
  3. Send Quick Poll.

After the Activity

I often will analyze my student's results and have them work though the incorrect answers to find the error.
