Task Card Activity for Algebra 1 Statistics

Activity Overview

Give students a self-guided activity to practice their Algebra 1 statistics skills — at their own pace.

About the Lesson

Make practicing Algebra 1 statistics skills a self-paced and engaging activity with Task Card Tents and the TI-84 series calculator. The front of the tent presents the problem, the back provides a hint, and the inside houses the solution so students can check their own work!

Designed by Kelly (@algebraonederland), an Algebra 1 teacher for 10+ years, this activity gets students moving, collaborating, and offers different levels of support that makes practice student-centered.

What students and teachers love about this activity:

  • Self-Paced: There’s no worksheet that must be finished in its entirety. Students can complete as many tents as time allows and move through the problems at their own pace.
  • Engaging: Task Card Tents organically encourage students to collaborate in their learning. They create a low-stress environment that makes it easy to work with peers.
  • Self-Checking: Each Task Card Tent has a hint on the back and an answer key inside, so students can check their own work; freeing the teacher up for working with students on more meaningful questions.
  • Versatile: Task cards can be used in so many different ways! Whether it's independent practice or small group work, they allow students to work at the level that meets their needs.
  • Easy Prep: Just print double-sided (preferably on cardstock), fold, and that's it!

CCSS HSS-ID.B.6c – Fit a linear function for a scatter plot that suggests a linear association.

CCSS HSS-ID.C.8 – Compute (using technology) and interpret the correlation coefficient of a linear fit.

CCSS HSS-ID.C.9 – Distinguish between correlation and causation.
