Introduction to Leslie Matrices. The TI-nspire activity file includes interactive Leslie Matrices and data extraction to monitor the different age groups associated with the Dung Beetle population. Which statistics really count towards a football team's success?  Football commentators often refer to the over use of handballs. Is there any correlation between a team's success and the frequency that players use handball to maintain possession or move the ball forward?  This activity comes pre-loaded with all the relevant statistics from the 2016 AFL home and away season so that students can focus on searching and exploring for correlations rather than data entry. The AFL Coleman Medal is awarded to the player who kicks the most goals in a season. In 1970 Peter Hudson kicked 146 goals, then backed that effort up with 140 goals in 1971. Gary Ablett (senior) won the Coleman Medal in three successive years totals of 124, 113 and 118. Lance Franklyn was the last player to kick more than 100 goals back in 2008. Since then the average number of goals scored by the Coleman Medallist has averaged just over 70 goals. Has the day of the dominant full forward come to a full stop? In this activity, students use moving averages to explore trends over the history of the Coleman Medal.

When a helium balloon is released it races rapidly towards the sky. Does it continue to travel at this speed? Watch the YouTube video of a weather balloon with included telemetry to help answer the question. Students race the balloon, using regression to make predictions for the elevation at 30 minutes. Students check their answers on the video rather than the back of the book. Enjoy the flight and the view as the balloon journeys into the stratosphere.

Median smoothing, more interesting than your average graph. While most median smoothing questions relate to graphs, this activity focuses on an application embedded in digital image enhancement. Students are supplied with a digital image of an old photograph. The original photograph has deteriorated but can be automatically improved by applying various levels of median smoothing.
