Activity Overview

In this activity students have the opportunity to learn a useful integration technique to help establish a rule for the integral of sine, cosine and tangent raised to increasing integer powers. A teacher slide presentation is provided to help work through the technique. 

Objectives

The purpose of this activity is to help students see that various techniques exist for the determination of an integral. In this particular activity students use Integration by Parts to determine the integral of sine, cosine and tangent raised to various integer powers. Students can also compare their results to those obtained using various trigonometric relationships. A set of PowerPoint slides can be used to step through the procedure of Integration by Parts.

About the Lesson
