Module 5 - Limits and Infinity
  Introduction | Lesson 1 | Lesson 2 | Lesson 3 | Lesson 4 | Self-Test

In this module you will investigate limits and the behavior of functions as x and y approach infinity. As in previous modules, the investigations will be graphical, numerical and symbolic.

Lesson Index:

5.1 - Vertical and Horizontal Asymptotes

    5.2 - Holes

    5.3 - Oblique Asymptotes

    5.4 - Nonlinear Asymptotes

After completing this module, you should be able to do the following:

  • Use graphs, tables and limits to describe the behavior of rational functions
  • Use the TI-89 zeros( command to find the zeros of a function
  • Use the TI-89 propFrac( command to convert rational functions to proper fractions
  • Understand how the parts of the proper fraction are related to the graph of the rational function
  • Find vertical, horizontal, oblique and nonlinear asymptotes
