How do I calculate and display a linear regression model?
To calculate and display a linear regression model, you will need to enter the data.
Data for this example:
L1: 3, 5, 8, 10, 15
L2: 7, 8, 12, 14, 17
To calculate the linear regression (ax+b), follow these steps:
- Press m to enter the statistics menu.
- Press the right arrow key › to reach the CALC menu.
- Select option 4: LinReg(ax+b) or option 8: LinReg(a+bx).
- Ensure XLIST is set at L1, YLIST is set at L2, and Store RegEQ is set at Y1 by pressing b Ž and 1:Y1.
- Select the softkeys for CALCULATE by pressing d or f.
Note: The graphing calculator will display the form of the equation as y=a+bx or y=ax+b and list the values for the two coefficients (a and b). It will store the regression equation to your Y1 function. The correlation coefficient (r and r^2) will be displayed if the diagnostics are on.
To graph the linear regression along with the statistical data, follow these steps:
- Ensure your regression equation is stored in Y1.
- Press a À.
- Press 1 to enter PLOT1.
- Press the down arrow key ≥ to the 1st graph TYPE, scatter plot.
- Highlight ON and press = to turn the stat plot on and be sure that XLIST is L1 and YLIST is L2.
- Press h.
- Press f 9.
