Activity Overview

Students use a number of interactive diagrams to collect data and explore the relationship between the side lengths of a triangle and its area with a view to establishing the rule A = ½ a b sin(C)

Objectives

Establish the sine, cosine and area rules for any triangle and solve related problems (ACMMG273)

About the Lesson

Students are provided with an activity file that includes a series of interactive diagram. In the first case students capture data to explore the relationship between side lengths, angles and areas. This information is later formalised in the form of a rule where another interactive diagram can be used to help visualise the solution process.
