Module 28 - Extending an Activity |
Introduction | Assignment | Activity 11 | Extension |
Introduction |
Often in lessons and activities there exists the possibility of further extensions. Many times students themselves will ask or suggest extensions to a topic. These can frequently provide rich learning opportunities as students explore and investigate. In the previous two modules you have examined some classroom activities. Many of these suggested extensions and ideas for further investigation. In this module we will examine one more activity and then work through the suggested extension. The activity is the traditional problem of maximizing the volume of a box that is created by cutting the corners from a sheet of paper. This activity provides an excellent opportunity to explore using the TI-89 as a powerful assistant. Work through the activity in Lesson 1 and then follow through with a suggested extension in Lesson 2.
