Zalman Usiskin

Director, University of Chicago School Mathematics Project (UCSMP)


Zalman Usiskin, professor emeritus of education at the University of Chicago and director of the UCSMP – the largest university-based mathematics curriculum project in the United States – is a distinguished researcher, instructor, speaker and leader in mathematics education. This author and co-author of over 150 articles and papers and dozens of books – including textbooks and their teachers' editions – has been an advocate of the use of the latest technology in mathematics classrooms for more than 40 years.

Usiskin has served on a number of boards, including the Mathematical Sciences Education Board of the National Research Council, NCTM Board of Directors, and chaired the United States National Commission on Mathematics Instruction from 1998 - 2001. He received the 1994 Glenn Gilbert (National Leadership) Award from NCSM, 2001 Lifetime Achievement Award from NCTM and 2010 Distinguished Life Achievement Award from the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
