Matthew R. Larson

President, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM)


Dr. Matthew Larson, president of NCTM, is the author and co-author of several professional books – including a series on learning communities and Common Core mathematics. He is co-author with Tim Kanold, Ph.D., of the recent publication, “Balancing the Equation: A Guide to School Mathematics for Educators and Parents,” and was on the writing team of NCTM’s influential 2014 book, “Principles to Actions: Ensuring Mathematical Success for All.”

A frequent speaker before mathematics education audiences, Larson has taught math at the elementary through college level and was appointed an honorary visiting associate professorship at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City. For more than 20 years, Larson served as the K-12 curriculum specialist for mathematics in Lincoln (Nebraska) Public Schools.
