Getting Started with Data Collection and the TI-84 Plus Family in High School Mathematics and Science

Designed for educators who want to learn more about the data-collection features of the TI-84 Plus graphing calculator and how the TI-84 Plus can assist them in covering topics in high school mathematics and science, this workshop offers hands-on explorations demonstrating effective classroom use of the technology.

You’ll become familiar with the TI-84 Plus family of graphing calculators by working through classroom-ready activities that use the calculator – along with data-collection devices such as the Calculator-Based Laboratory 2™ (CBL 2™) data-collection device, the Calculator-Based Ranger 2™ (CBR 2™) motion sensor and Vernier EasyLink® USB sensor interface – to enhance student understanding and problem-solving.

This in-person workshop is available in one-, two- and three-day options to accommodate educator-specific needs. The two- and three-day workshops offer a more extensive exploration of topics. A virtual workshop is also available in multiple two- or three-hour sessions.

  • Overview of the TI-84 Plus graphing calculator.
  • Collection, modeling and analysis of bivariate data by entering data into lists, creating scatter plots, and calculating linear regressions.
  • Interpretation and application of mathematical models to predict future outcomes.
  • Introduction to data collection and analysis with the CBR 2™ motion sensor and Vernier EasyData™ app.
  • Modeling and analysis of univariate data with box plots, histograms and measures of central tendency.
  • Additional coverage of modeling with numeric, algebraic and graphical representations.
  • Data collection and analysis with the Vernier Voltage Sensor , Vernier EasyTemp® USB temperature sensor and Light Sensor.
  • Modeling and analysis of relationships between variables with exponential and power functions.
  • Opportunities to explore TI Connect™ software and TI-SmartView™ emulator software.
