T3™ Teacher Leader Cadre (TLC): Connecting Science and Mathematics Using TI-Nspire™ Technology

Audience: High school science or math educators looking to receive in-depth technology, pedagogy, and leadership training with TI-Nspire technology over an extended period of time.

Technology: TI-Nspire™ CX handhelds, Vernier data collection sensors, TI-Nspire™ Lab Cradle, TI-Nspire™ Teacher Software.

Overview: This workshop focuses on appropriate usage of TI-Nspire technology and Vernier data collection sensors across the high school science and mathematics curricula, with an emphasis on strengthening content knowledge, pedagogy, and leadership skills.

Workshop Objectives:

Participants will have the opportunity to begin or expand their use of the TI-Nspire handheld and Teacher Software, learning how to collect and analyze data, develop appropriate mathematical models, and use interactive simulations to explore key concepts with students. Throughout the TLC, participants will become better equipped to share their knowledge with other educators and students.
Leadership activities allow participants to develop skills to train peers and mentor colleagues on the effective use of TI-Nspire technology in the classroom. Participants will design their own TI-Nspire lessons and, during the last two days of the TLC, present their lessons to their colleagues for professional critique.

Technology, pedagogy, and leadership skills are taught in the context of the following areas:

Biology: Cells, The Human Body, Ecology
Atomic Structure & Periodic Table; Chemical Bonding; Gases, Liquids, & Solids; Acids, Bases, & Salts
Forces & Motion; Work, Energy, & Momentum; Sound & Waves; Light & Optics
Algebra 1:
Equations, Linear Functions, Exponential Functions
Algebra 2:
Quadratics, Exponential Functions
Precalculus: Applications of Trigonometry
Statistics: Describing Univariate & Bivariate Data
