Exploring Common Core Topics in High School Mathematics with the TI-84 Plus Family

Designed for high school algebra, geometry and statistics educators who need support transitioning to Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Mathematics, this workshop addresses key topics across the six Common Core conceptual categories for high school mathematics, along with essential technology skills for the TI-84 Plus family of graphing calculators. By the end of the workshop, you’ll be comfortable using the TI-84 Plus graphing calculator and TI-SmartView™ emulator to deepen student understanding of key CCSS topics in algebra, geometry and statistics.

Overview

This workshop is available in one-, two- and three-day options to accommodate educator-specific needs. The two- and three-day workshops offer a more extensive exploration of topics.

  • Identification of main support needs, with coverage of key CCSS domains in algebra, geometry and statistics.
  • Introduction to CCSS for Mathematical Practice.
  • Overview of essential TI-84 Plus technology skills, including the MathPrint™ feature.

  • Introduction to apps designed to explore multiple representations.
  • Deeper discussions of the role of technology to engage students in Common Core Math Practices.
  • Additional statistics coverage, including features for graphing and analyzing univariate and bivariate data.

  • Extensive coverage of content standards across algebra, functions, modeling, geometry, statistics and probability.

This workshop addresses CCSS content in high school mathematics, with a focus on building pedagogical skills for leading discussions, asking students to explain their reasoning, and engaging them in CCSS Math Practices with the TI-84 Plus family.
