# Exploring Common Core Topics in Geometry with TI-Nspire™ Technology

Geometry educators who need support transitioning to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Mathematics will learn how to use TI-Nspire™ technology to encourage students to investigate geometric relationships, make conjectures, and evaluate their reasoning.

Use pre-made lessons to explore similarity and congruence through transformations and learn techniques for increasing student understanding of various triangle and circle relationships. By the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to use TI-Nspire™ technology to deepen student understanding of key Common Core concepts in high school geometry.

## Overview

This in-person workshop is available in one- and two-day options to accommodate educator-specific needs. The two-day workshop offers a more extensive exploration of topics. A virtual workshop is also available in multiple two- or three-hour sessions.

 Coverage of key CCSS domains in geometry, including congruence, similarity and right triangles. Exploration of dynamic, interactive content. Introduction to CCSS for Mathematical Practice. Overview of essential technology skills, including geometry tools to investigate congruence, similarity and transformations. Broader geometry coverage, with opportunities for differentiation based on teacher needs. Deeper discussion of Common Core Math Practices. Introduction to TI-Nspire™ Teacher Software. Additional exploration of features and resources for geometry, with coverage extended to circles and modeling geometric properties with equations.

## Areas of Focus

This workshop addresses CCSS in high school geometry, with a focus on building pedagogical skills for leading discussions, asking students to explain their reasoning, and engaging them in CCSS Math Practices with TI-Nspire™ technology.

 Subject Topics Congruence Experiment with transformations in the plane; understand congruence in terms of rigid motions; make geometric constructions Similarity, Right Triangles, & Trig Understand similarity in terms of similarity transformations; prove theorems about similarity Circles Understand and apply theorems about circles; find arc lengths and areas of sectors of circles Expressing Properties with Equations Translate between the geometric description and the equation for a conic section Measurement & Dimension Explain volume formulas and use them to solve problems Modeling with Geometry Apply geometric concepts in modeling situations
