Session 1 | Success on Day One With TI-Nspire™ Technology

  • Overview of TI-Nspire™ CX technology, including general calculator, graphing and statistical functionality
  • Exploration of dynamic, interactive lessons for middle and high school mathematics courses
  • Introduction to basic features of TI-Nspire™ CX Premium Teacher Software

Session 2 | Valuable Tips for the TI-84 Plus Family of Graphing Calculators and TI-SmartView™ CE Emulator Software

For new and experienced users — get creative, cool and essential ideas to utilize the TI-83 and TI-84 Plus graphing calculator and its color version, the TI-84 Plus CE, much more effectively.

  • Easily evaluate complex expressions
  • Trace on a graph and table simultaneously
  • Quickly evaluate the quadratic formula
  • Store window settings
  • Investigate transformation graphing with lists
  • Plus get tips on how to fully utilize TI-SmartView™ CE emulator software

This session also addresses:

  • How the TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculator differs from other TI-84 Plus graphing calculators

Session 3 | Mathematical Discussions to Support Student Learning

What are the elements of a rich task, as described in NCTM’s “Principles to Action?”

  • This session models rich tasks using in-depth discussions and Mathematical Teaching Practices, with an emphasis on task analysis, questioning strategies and essential TI technology skills to enhance student learning
  • Explore tasks that promote the growth mindset
  • A focus will be on emphasizing NCTM’s “Five Practices for Orchestrating Productive Math Discussion”

Session 4 | Next Steps With TI-Nspire™ CX Technology to Support Mathematics Instruction

Learn how TI-Nspire™ CX technology facilitates reasoning, sense-making and understanding in an interactive mathematics classroom.

  • Review of TI-Nspire™ CX graphing calculator capabilities
  • Exploration of dynamic, interactive lessons with premade student questions and teacher notes
  • Function investigation by creating a TI-Nspire™ Document with sliders

Noon – 1 p.m. | Lunch

Session 5 | Exploring Algebra Topics With TI-Nspire™ CX Technology

Utilizing TI-Nspire™ CX technology, we will explore topics such as:

  • Linear functions and systems
  • Functions and relations

Session 7 | Exploring Statistics Topics With TI-Nspire™ CX Technology

  • Interpreting Univariate Data: Representing data with dot plots, comparing center and spread of data sets, use of the mean and standard deviation to fit a data set into a normal distribution
  • Interpreting Bivariate Data: Represent bivariate data on a scatter plot, describe the relationship, and interpret the slope and intercept of a linear model in the context of the data
  • Conditional Probability: Use independence and conditional probability to interpret data; use the rules of probability to compute probabilities of compound events
  • Making Inferences and Decisions: Understand and evaluate random processes underlying statistical experiments

Session 8 | Making Math and Science Meaningful With the TI-Innovator™ Hub and TI-Innovator™ Rover

This session is designed for teachers interested in introducing the TI-Innovator™ Hub with TI-Innovator™ Rover to their students. Participants will choose from math and science lessons that include topics that will engage students in new and exciting ways, such as:

  • Exploring the relationships between distance, rate and time through challenges involving driving a line and navigating a city
  • Illustrating the intersection of two lines by crashing the Rovers while connecting velocity to the slope and starting distance to the y-intercept
  • Classifying species by working through a dichotomous key, putting the Rover through a battery of tests and observing the Rover’s behavior
  • Exploring pedigrees by determining if a dominant or recessive allele is expressed for separate traits

Session 9 | Exploring Geometry With TI-Nspire™ CX Technology

Join this session to learn how to use TI-Nspire™ CX technology to encourage students to investigate geometric relationships, make conjectures and evaluate their reasoning. Topics will include:

  • Key domains in geometry, including congruence, similarity and right triangles
  • Investigations into transformational geometry
  • Exploration of dynamic, interactive content

Session 10 | Developing Deeper Conceptual Understanding to Prepare for the ACT® Test Using TI-Nspire™ CX Technology

Students who only excel at procedural fluency (memorizing steps and formulas) will have a tough time on the math section of the redesigned ACT® Test. What is needed?

This session will explore:

  • A deeper understanding of the concepts
  • How we can leverage TI technology to meet our goals
  • Activities and ideas that promote conceptual understanding

Session 11 | Developing Deeper Conceptual Understanding to Prepare for the ACT® Test Using the TI-84 Plus CE Graphing Calculator

  • Review of the TI-Nspire™ CX graphing calculator, including data collection with the Vernier EasyTemp® USB temperature sensor and CBR™ 2 motion sensor
  • Learn to connect science and math principles that engage students and allow them to transfer their knowledge across disciplines
  • Explore simulations and data-collection activities from TI’s Science Nspired site and discuss integrating them into your classrooms
  • Data analysis through the development of mathematical models

Session 13 | Exploring Precalculus and Calculus Topics With TI-Nspire™ CX Technology

Join this session as we explore how the topics below can help students move through a vertical curriculum from precalculus to calculus.

  • Modeling Various Functions: Statistical regression, choosing the best model, interpolating/extrapolating information
  • Polynomial Equations and Functions: Graphing and evaluating, finding relative extremes, an exploration of zeroes
  • Trigonometry: Transformations, solving trigonometric equations
  • Calculus: Tangent line approximations, exploring the relationship between a function and its derivatives, the relationship between integration and the area between a curve and the x-axis

Session 14 | Middle Grades Statistics With TI-Nspire™ CX Technology

This session is designed for middle grades mathematics educators that are beginning with or already using TI-Nspire™ CX technology. The session will focus on strategies for engaging students in new ways of visualizing and thinking about statistics and probability. Topics will include:

  • Visual models of data distributions, with emphasis on analyzing and interpreting appropriate measures of center and spread
  • Exploration of how students’ understanding of statistics and probability is developed within and across grades six, seven and eight

Session 15 | Mathematical Discussions to Support Student Learning
