Pouring, Mixing and ... Conductivity Is Here
Presenters: Irma Patricia Flores and Ximena Regina Torres Lillo In this workshop, we will show a way to develop students’ fundamental knowledge about concentration and reaction rate of different solutions through different experiments and didactic strategies by using the Vernier Conductivity Probe and the TI-Nspire™ CX family of graphing calculators. We will analyze the graph of conductivity and concentration of different chemistry solutions to observe the behavior of conductivity. The attendees will experiment how to determine the variables that influence the concept of rate reaction and conductivity. They will observe what happens if they change the concentration of the chemical solution. They will be able to answer the question: What happens if the temperature rises or the behavior changes? We will explore different semiotic representations (graphic and tabular) to develop new ways to understand, analyze and visualize functions. All Tied Up in Knots?
Presenters: Sandra Hocutt and Cassie Whitecotton Using the TI-Nspire™ CX family of graphing calculators, participants will collect data by measuring a rope, tying a knot, remeasuring, etc. and entering the data into Lists & Spreadsheet. Data aggregation and analysis will be done using the powerful options available on the TI-Nspire™ CX Navigator™ System. Presenters' note: Each participant is given a length of rope and a tape measure. Instructions are to open the tns file. Measure the rope, tie a knot, measure and repeat 5 times. Participants will then make a scatter plot and discussion will be held as to what they participants notice about their neighbors' plots. A Quick Poll will then be sent to collect the lists, compiled and the sent back to the participants. A scatter plot is generated and then an open discussion about the differences noticed. Regressions will be added to the scatter plots. y-intercept and slope will be discussed. The less directions given to the participants will give greater discussions. |

All Tied Up in Knots?
Presenters: Sandra Hocutt and Cassie Whitecotton Using the TI-Nspire™ CX family of graphing calculators, participants will collect data by measuring a rope, tying a knot, remeasuring, etc. and entering the data into Lists & Spreadsheet. Data aggregation and analysis will be done using the powerful options available on the TI-Nspire™ CX Navigator™ System. Presenters' note: Each participant is given a length of rope and a tape measure. Instructions are to open the tns file. Measure the rope, tie a knot, measure and repeat 5 times. Participants will then make a scatter plot and discussion will be held as to what they participants notice about their neighbors' plots. A Quick Poll will then be sent to collect the lists, compiled and the sent back to the participants. A scatter plot is generated and then an open discussion about the differences noticed. Regressions will be added to the scatter plots. y-intercept and slope will be discussed. The less directions given to the participants will give greater discussions. |

The Prime Numbers Density
Presenter: Ruei Hung Lee I will introduce some TI-Basic language to factor a natural number in a different form. I will add the prime numbers to the Lists & Spreadsheet application, then graph the prime numbers with the Graph application and use different functions, or commands, in the TI-Nspire™ CX II CAS graphing calculator to show the multiple representations with prime numbers density. |
