Activity Overview
In this activity, students explore the product property, the quotient property, and the power property of logarithms both algebraically and graphically.
Objectives
- Students will be able to state and apply the properties of logarithms.
- Students will make comparisons between the properties of exponents and the properties of logarithms.
- Students will try to make a connection with how to understand these topics in IB Mathematics courses and on their final assessments.
Vocabulary
- logarithmic expressions
- equivalent expressions
- exponential properties
About the Lesson
This activity is done with the use of the TI-84 family as an aid to the problems, specifically using Lists to input and generate graphs using stat plots and linear regression commands. It serves as a nice introduction to properties of logarithms.
