Factoring and Solving Quadratic Binomials

Activity Overview

This TI-Navigator™ activity allows students to review the concept of factoring and solving quadratic binomials. Includes a connection to graphical solutions.

Before the Activity

If you are using the TI-Navigator System with the TI-73 you will need the attached .pdf file.
Previous instruction in factoring simple quadratic binomials is assumed. Students should be familiar with factoring binomials of the form y=ax^2+bx by finding the greatest common factor. Students should also know the connection between x-intercepts and zeros.

During the Activity

This activity is intended as a learning review or a warm-up. Students should work alone or in small groups to answer all five questions. Note that the text fields in the fill-in-the-blank problems require students to enter a number such as -2 using the minus key and not the negative (-) key (due to the inability of the number fields to support more than one possible answer).

After the Activity

Review with students their performance. As a class, discuss problems that appeared to be more challenging, reteaching as necessary.
