Students investigate the effects of polarizing filters on light intensity.
Students use a simulation of a light wave and a polarizing filter to explore the effects of filtering on light intensity.
Next, they construct the component of the incident light wave that can pass through (is parallel to) the filter.
Finally, they repeat the process with a pair of filters. In each case, they compare the intensity (magnitude) of the resulting wave to that of the incident wave to see that the polarizing filter reduces the intensity of the light.
