Graphing Transformations

Activity Overview

Combine movement and mystery while graphing transformation and piecewise functions.

About the Lesson

This low-prep, ready-to-print stations activity gets students out of their seats to review shifts in graphs, as well as graphing piecewise functions, using the TI-84 series calculator. Perfect for the conclusion of a graphing unit or as year-end exam prep!

Created by Kate Dean (@mrs_d_teaches_math), a teacher with 18+ years of experience teaching everything from prealgebra to precalculus.

In this activity, students will:

  • Review and practice transformations and piecewise functions using their TI graphing calculator.
  • Move through 8 stations around the room, in any order, solving problems at each stop.
  • Reveal pieces of the hidden mystery image on their calculators as they progress through each station — until they’ve uncovered it all!

This activity is part of the Calculated Collection, featuring easy-start activities made by teachers for today's differentiated classrooms.

What is included in the download:

  • 8 stations (in 3 different designs)
  • Answer sheet
  • Teacher directions
  • Tutorials for the TI-84 / TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculators
