Education Technology
Students solve problems involving surface area and volume of right pyramids, right cones, spheres and related composite solids, prove and apply angle and chord properties of circles and use Pythagoras' theorem and trigonometry to solving three dimensional problems in right-angled triangles. They establish the sine, cosine and area rules for any triangle and solve related problems, use the unit circle to define trigonometric functions and graph them and solve simple trigonometric equations.

Year 10A: Pythagoras 3D image

Standard ACMMG276

Pythagoras' theorem and trigonometry to solving threedimensional problems in right-angled triangles

Activity: Pythagoras 3D

Students use an interactive diagram of a three dimensional box to explore the relationship between the side lengths of the box and the length of the diagonal connecting opposing vertices. Students verify the length of the diagonal by using Pythagoras’s theorem in three dimensions.

Year 10A: Area of a Triangle image

Standard ACMMG273

Establish the sine, cosine and area rules for any triangle and solve related problems

Activity: Area of a Triangle

Students use a number of interactive diagrams to collect data and explore the relationship between the side lengths of a triangle and its area with a view to establishing the rule A = ½ a b sin(C)
