Game 2048

Activity Overview

This popular game was developed by 19 year old Gabriele Cirulli in a single weekend to test if he could program a game from scratch. Based on a similar game using 3's, the game soon became popular in the Google Play Store and was soon adapted to play in a web-browser. Now, thanks to Osias Hernandez it is available to play on TI-nspire!

Objectives

The aim of the game is simple: Continue manipulating the tiles until you get to 2048. Of course it's harder than it looks. Track your progress and record your strategies. Which strategies work best?

About the Lesson

With each turn a 2 or 4 tile is placed in a randomly selected empty square on the 4 x 4 grid. Sending tiles to the left, right, up or down allows them to be added if they have the same number. With each successive turn, the board gradually fills, the only way to stop it filling is to ensure tiles continue combining (adding). The challenge is to keep adding until a tile with 2048 is achieved. It's harder than it looks but loads of fun. Good luck!
