Vernier - Watershed Testing

Activity Overview

In this lesson, students will determine water quality through testing.

Objectives

In this experiment, students will:

  • Use a Temperature Probe, Dissolved Oxygen Probe, Conductivity Probe, and a pH Sensor to make on-site measurements.
  • Calculate the water quality based on their findings.

About the Lesson

In this experiment, students will perform four of the WQI tests: dissolved oxygen (optional), water temperature, pH, and total dissolved solids. A modified version of the WQI for these four tests, will allow you to determine the general quality of the stream or lake you are sampling.

Note: The Dissolved Oxygen portion of the lab may be skipped due to the level of complexity.
