Students are asked to find equations of lines and then check their answers by graphing their equations. Students are also asked to find equations of parallel and perpendicular lines. At the end of the activity there is a short quiz for students to complete.
Before the Activity
Before using this activity, students should understand the concept of slope and know how to find the equation of a line. The activity also asks students to find equations of parallel and perpendicular lines. If students do not have prior knowledge of the relationships between the slopes of parallel and perpendicular lines, this activity serves as a good exploratory/discovery activity. For those students with prior knowledge, this activity serves as reinforcement.
