FF*FF*Systems of equations: Algebra I
This activity can be used as an introduction or to re-teach finding solutions to systems of equations.
After the students log onto navigator, the teacher should have the students go into activity center. The teacher should use the graph to give an example of each type of system.
Intersecting ( y = 3x 2 and y = 4)
Parallel ( y = 1/2x 4 and y = 1/2x + 5)
Coinciding (y = 3/5x + 2)
Now for each of these examples use quick poll and ask the students what they think the solution for each of these systems.
From there use the following examples to determine the solutions between sets of lines. The teacher should use quick poll to have the students determine the solution between two of the four lines given.
Some questions to ask:
What is the solution between the blue and green line?, etc.
Example 1: lines to use y = -x + 10, y = -x 10, y = 1/4x + 5, y = 1/4x 4
Example 2: lines to use y = 1/2x 6, y = 2/5x + 3, y = 5 and x = -4
To quiz use the systems quiz on learning check.
