Creating a regression equation
Follow these steps to create a regression equation:
- Press Home and then Lists & Spreadsheets.
- Manually enter data.
- Press Home and then Data & Statistics.
- Plot the appropriate values on the bottom axis by using the navigation pad to highlight "Click to add variable" on both the bottom of the screen.
Then press the click key and highlight the appropriate set of data entered on the spreadsheet. Press enter.
- Do the same thing for the side of the screen.
- Press menu, press actions. Select regression and then choose the appropriate type of regression equation you desire.
For example, if you desire the standard mx +b expression, you will select linear regression.
- To affect a change on the line of the regression, you can move the points on the graph by using the navigation pad to roll over a point and pressing and holding the click key. By grabbing and moving a point, the line of regression will move to fit the new data.
- If you switch back to the Lists & Spreadsheets, you will see that the information for that point has been changed.
Follow along with this example for creating a regression equation:
- Press Home and then Lists & Spreadsheets.
- We will use this set of data:
. Manually enter this set of data into the spreadsheet.
Data Set 1 will be the x coordinates. Data Set 2 will be the y coordinates.
Enter Data Set 1 into column A and name column A "xcoord".
Enter Data Set 2 into column B and name column B "ycoord".
- Press Home and then Data & Statistics.
- Plot the "xcoord" values on the bottom axis by using the navigation pad to click on "Click to add variable" on the bottom of the screen.
Then using the click key in then center of the navigation pad, select "xcoord" and press enter.
- Plot the "ycoord" values on the side axis by using the navigation pad to click on "Click to add variable" on the side of the screen.
Then using the click key in then center of the navigation pad, select "ycoord" and press enter.
- Press menu and select Actions. Select regression and then choose the appropriate type of regression equation you desire.
If example if you desire the standard mx +b expression, you will select linear regression.
- To affect a change on the line of the regression, you can move the points on the graph by using the navigation pad to roll over a point and pressing and holding the click key. By grabbing and moving a point, the line of regression will move to fit the new data.
