Summation
Follow these steps to do a summation:
- Press ctrl to open the Template palette.
- Select to insert the algebraic sum template.
- The template appears on the entry line with small blocks representing elements that you can enter.
A cursor appears next to one of the elements to show that you can type a value for that element.
- The template appears on the entry line with small blocks representing elements that you can enter.
- Use the arrow keys to move the cursor to each element's position, and type a value or expression for each element.
- Press enter to evaluate the expression.
Follow along with this example for doing a summation:
- To find the summation of n4/3 as n goes from 1 to 5, Press Home and then select the Calculator application.
- Press ctrl and then the multiplication key.
- Highlight the sum template and press enter.
- Starting in the bottom left hand dashed box, press n.
- Press the right arrow key to move to the next box, press the lower bound variable of one.
- Press the upper bound arrow key to enter the upper bound variable of five on top of the sigma notation.
- Press the down arrow key, to enter n4/3 in the dashed box in front of the sigma notation.
- Press enter to evaluate the expression.
