Fractions to decimals
Follow these steps to change an answer from fractions to decimals:
- By default, Calculator retains the more precise form: 2752/3. Any result that is not a whole number displays in a fractional form. This reduces rounding errors that could be introduced by intermediate results in chained calculations.
- After you have entered an expression, press ctrl and enter to get decimal.
- You can also wrap the expression in the approx() function. Click the catalog button and scroll down to approx() and click enter. Enter the expression and then the close parenthesis button.
Follow along with this example for changing an answer from fractions to decimals:
- To approximate the expression (10+3)/3 in decimal form, press home and then select the Calculator application.
- Then type (10+3)/3 into the calculator and press enter.
- Now press ctrl and then enter to retrieve a decimal.
- You could have also used the approx() function by clicking the catalog button and scrolling down and selecting approx().
- Then type in the expression (10+3)/3 and then enter.
- If you want all the values in a document to return an approximated decimal answer press ctrl, Home and then File. Now select document settings.
