 Introduction

In this module you will extend the ideas from Module 16 to find areas bounded by curves that are both above and below the x-axis and construct the general shape of a net area function's graph. You will use TI-89 features to visualize and find both positive and negative integrals and to find the area between two curves. You will also use definite integrals to find the length of an arc of a section of a curve.

Lesson Index:

    17.1 - Net Area

17.2 - Total Area and The Area Between Two Curves

    17.3 - Arc Length

After completing this module, you should be able to do the following:

  • Find the "net" area bounded by a curve and the x-axis
  • Approximate the net area function's graph given the curve's graph
  • Find the total area bounded by a curve and the x-axis
  • Find the area bounded by two curves
  • Find the length of an arc on a curve
  • Use the graphical arc length feature of the TI-89
  • Use the TI-89 arc length function
