 Introduction

In this module you will learn how to use the TI-83 to define and graph polar functions, which are often used in multi-variable calculus. The graphs can illustrate polar functions and help you discover many patterns and conjectures. In this module you will also use the TI-83 to perform calculus operations that find values such as slope and area for polar functions.

Lesson Index:

    27.1 - Polar Coordinates

    27.2 - Polar Graphs

27.3 - Area Bounded by Polar Graphs

After completing this module, you should be able to do the following:

  • Use the TI-83 to convert coordinates from rectangular to polar and from polar to rectangular
  • Graph polar functions and find their intersections
  • Use the TI-83's derivative features for polar graphs
  • Find areas bounded by polar functions
