 Introduction

In this module you will investigate limits and the behavior of functions as x and y approach infinity. As in previous modules, the investigations will be graphical, numerical, and symbolic.

Lesson Index:

7.1 - Vertical and Horizontal Asymptotes

    7.2 - Holes

    7.3 - Oblique Asymptotes

    7.4 - Nonlinear Asymptotes

After completing this module, you should be able to do the following:

  • Use graphs, tables and limits to describe the behavior of rational functions
  • Convert a rational function to the sum of a polynomial and a proper fraction
  • Understand how the polynomial and the proper fraction are related to the graph of the rational function
  • Find vertical, horizontal, oblique, and nonlinear asymptotes
