    T³ —the renowned professional development community of experienced educators, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary of service this year — has announced its 2013 TI Technology Summer Workshop schedule.

    Teachers gave last summer’s T³ workshops highest grades

    Educators from the United States and Canada attended 101 TI technology workshops in 63 cities and two virtual workshops in 2012.

    • 95 percent of attendees rated these high-energy, fun and engaging workshops as “Excellent” or “Very Good.”
    • 96 percent stated that they “Agree” or “Strongly Agree” that the networking, sharing and learning experience was valuable.

    Through hands-on, subject-specific training, new and experienced educators learned how to integrate TI-Nspire technology into their teaching and use the latest graphing technology to encourage student exploration of math and science concepts.

      Participants will learn how to optimize TI technology for maximum effectiveness in the classroom. These workshops show educators how to use this powerful teaching system to develop students’ reasoning, sense-making and understanding skills. Learn more here.

    T³ Special Interests Workshops

      Educators will explore instructional strategies for identifying, implementing, and mutually reinforcing STEM and math practices using TI educational technology with a focus on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) or Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Learn more here.

      • Getting Started

        Getting Started with TI Technology Workshops

        The Getting Started workshops are two- or three-day professional development opportunities for those that are new to or at the beginner level of using TI technology. The T³™ Instructors leading these workshops are highly-knowledgeable on the technology and content areas of the workshops and are selected and trained by the T³ organization. In addition to better understanding how to use TI technology effectively in the classroom, those attending will learn to use easy-to-access online resources, create original activities and enhance formative assessment opportunities.

        All participants will receive a set of classroom-ready activities and explorations and, if the technology-included option is selected, either:

        • a TI-Nspire™ CX or TI-Nspire™ CX CAS handheld and TI-Nspire™ Teacher Software, or
        • a TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition graphing calculator and TI-SmartView™ Software

        Course Descriptions:

        • Getting Started with TI-Nspire™ Technology and the Common Core in Middle Grades Mathematics

          This three-day workshop is designed for educators interested in or just beginning to use TI-Nspire technology. This workshop will cover the basics of the TI-Nspire handheld and Teacher Software in the context of the middle grades mathematics curriculum. Special emphasis will be placed on key domains and clusters in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.

          Learn how to use TI-Nspire technology to guide your students to a coordinated understanding of ratios, proportional relationships and functions. Cultivate students’ problem-solving skills with multiple representations of expressions and equations. Use premade lessons from the Math Nspired resource center to investigate geometric relationships. Increase students’ understanding of key statistical concepts by graphing and analyzing univariate and bivariate data. At the conclusion of the three days, participants will be comfortable using premade Math Nspired lessons and performing basic operations in the TI-Nspire handheld and Teacher Software.

        • Getting Started with TI-Nspire™ Navigator™ System in High School Mathematics

          This three-day workshop is designed for educators who are interested in learning to use and teach with the TI-Nspire Navigator System. Basic calculator and graphing skills will be covered, and participants will see how the TI-Nspire Navigator System can be used to formatively assess student understanding.

          The TI-Nspire Navigator System will be introduced in the context of the high school mathematics curriculum, with topics mainly in Algebra and Geometry but including ones that are appropriate up to Calculus. Hands-on time gives participants the opportunity to create sample classes and explore basic features such as sending documents, Class Capture, Live Presenter and Quick Poll.

          Participants will also explore learning activities from the Math Nspired resource center designed to support further use of TI-Nspire technology. At the conclusion of the three days, participants should be ready to begin using the TI-Nspire Navigator System in the classroom. Some previous experience with the TI-Nspire CX handheld is beneficial but not required.

        • Transitioning to the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition Graphing Calculator in High School Mathematics

          This two-day workshop is designed for educators currently using the TI-83 Plus or TI-84 Plus families of graphing calculators. Attendees explore how to use the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition graphing calculator to enhance students’ analytical and problem-solving abilities across the high school mathematics curriculum.

          Learn how color can be used effectively to help students distinguish relationships and make stronger connections among concepts. Explore key features that are designed to promote investigation of patterns and functions across multiple representations. Increase students’ understanding of key statistical concepts by graphing and analyzing univariate and bivariate data. Use on-screen background images to make real-world connections, and learn effective strategies for integrating TI Connect™ and TI-SmartView™ emulator software into your classroom.

        • Getting Started with TI-Nspire™ Technology in High School Mathematics

          This three-day workshop designed to equip teachers to excite and engage students about topics in high school mathematics. An emphasis will be placed on pedagogy and the implementation of effective and appropriate use of technology in an interactive mathematics classroom, in alignment with the Common Core State Standards Mathematical Practices. A variety of topics will be covered including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus/Calculus and Statistics.

        • Getting Started with TI-Nspire™ Technology in High School Science

          This three-day workshop focuses on new and innovative ways to collect, analyze and display data in the high school science classroom. This workshop will immerse science teachers in hands-on explorations that model effective classroom use of technology covering a variety of topics including Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Investigations will include simulations using TI-Nspire documents in addition to using the new Vernier DataQuest™ app for TI-Nspire and the TI-Nspire Lab Cradle to identify patterns and use them to model science phenomena and make predictions.

        • Getting Started with TI-Nspire™ Technology in Connecting Science and Mathematics

          This three-day workshop is designed to equip teachers with the knowledge and tools to excite and engage grade 7th–12th grade students to tackle the challenges of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The workshop will cover a variety a topics including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and Precalculus/Calculus. Investigations will include simulations using TI-Nspire documents and data collection probes with the Vernier DataQuest™ app for TI-Nspire. The workshop will provide a foundation for the effective use of the technology and encourage math and science educators to learn together in exploring activities.

        • Getting Started with TI-Nspire™ Technology in Algebra

          This three-day workshop is designed to equip teachers to excite and engage students about topics in Algebra. An emphasis will be placed on pedagogy and the implementation of effective and appropriate use of technology in an interactive mathematics classroom, in alignment with the Common Core State Standards Mathematical Practices. A variety of topics will be covered including Pre-Algebra through Algebra 1 and up to Algebra 2.

        • Intermediate/Advanced Workshops

          T³™ Workshops for Intermediate/Advanced Users

          T³ workshops for intermediate and advanced users of TI educational technology are two- or three-day opportunities led by highly knowledgeable professional development instructors. In addition to better understanding how to use TI technology effectively in the classroom, participants will learn to use easy-to-access online resources, create original activities and enhance formative assessment opportunities.

          Basic knowledge of the TI-Nspire™ handheld is needed to be successful in the Intermediate course. The advanced course is intended as a follow-on to the Intermediate course.

          All participants will receive a set of classroom-ready activities and explorations and, if the technology-included option is selected, a TI-Nspire CX or TI-Nspire CX CAS handheld and TI-Nspire Teacher Software.

          Course Descriptions:

          • TI-Nspire Technology for Intermediate Users: High School Mathematics

            This three-day workshop is designed to equip teachers to excite and engage students about topics in high school mathematics. A variety of topics will be covered including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus/Calculus and Statistics. Activities will emphasize the reasoning, sense-making and understanding that TI-Nspire technology can offer in an interactive mathematics classroom, in alignment with the Common Core State Standards Mathematical Practices. Participants will receive guidance and have time to create their own activities and enhance formative assessment opportunities.

          • TI-Nspire Technology for Advanced Users: Designing for Learning and Inquiry

            Designed as a follow up to the Intermediate Users workshop, this two-day program enables participants to expand their TI-Nspire technology skillset, create TI-Nspire documents and use advanced features as investigative and problem-solving tools. There will also be further discussions on strategies in effectively incorporating applications of TI-Nspire technology in their classrooms, including project-based learning and differentiated instruction.

            T³™ Special Interests Workshops

            Special Interests Workshops are professional development opportunities for educators interested in connecting math and science learning and applying TI technology to special teaching needs, the Common Core State Standards, or Next Generation Science Standards. The T³ Instructors selected and specially trained for these workshops are experts on the technology and content areas. In addition to better understanding how to use TI-Nspire™ technology effectively in the classroom, those attending will learn to use easy-to-access online resources, create original activities and enhance formative assessment opportunities.

            Course Descriptions:

            • Implementing Science and Engineering Practices with TI-Nspire™ Technology

              This three-day workshop explores strategies for identifying, implementing and mutually reinforcing science and engineering practices using TI-Nspire technology. Instructional strategies and learning outcomes will focus on the integration of technology, engineering, and mathematics into the science curriculum.

              Quantitative investigations, analyses, and simulations involving TI-Nspire technology will be used to define problems and develop solutions. An emphasis will be placed on developing and using models, planning and executing investigations involving data collection, analyzing and interpreting data and using computational thinking to construct explanations and design solutions. Engineering practices will be applied to problem-solving scenarios involving the physical sciences, life sciences, and earth and space sciences.

            • Implementing the Common Core Mathematical Practices with TI-Nspire™ Technology

              This three-day workshop is designed to equip teachers to excite and engage students using the Common Core State Standards of Mathematical Practices. An emphasis will be placed on pedagogy and the implementation of effective and appropriate use of technology in an interactive mathematics classroom, in alignment with the Common Core State Standards of Mathematical Practices. Participants will reflect on what steps are needed to get the students engaged in the mathematical practices through case studies, video and task analysis.
