Implementing STEM Practices with TI-Nspire™ Technology

This workshop explores strategies for identifying, implementing and mutually reinforcing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) practices using TI-Nspire™ technology. Instructional strategies and learning outcomes will focus on the integration of technology, engineering and mathematics into a science curriculum.

The workshop uses quantitative investigations, analyses and simulations using TI-Nspire™ technology to define problems and develop solutions, as well as developing and using models, planning and executing investigations involving data collection, analyzing and interpreting data, and using computational thinking to construct explanations and design solutions. You’ll apply STEM practices to problem-solving scenarios involving the physical sciences, life sciences, and earth and space sciences.

Overview

This in-person workshop is available in one-, two- and three-day options to accommodate educator-specific needs. A half-day workshop option is also available. The two- and three-day workshops offer a more extensive exploration of topics. A virtual workshop is also available in multiple two- or three-hour sessions.

workshop-1-day
  • Introduction to STEM practices in the context of experimental and engineering design.
  • Overview of essential TI-Nspire™ technology skills, including data collection and analysis.
  • Discussions of classroom applications and how technology can support STEM practices.
workshop-2-day
  • Broader coverage of STEM practices, with an introduction to dynamic, interactive simulations that involve STEM careers.
  • Discussion of questioning strategies that promote student learning.
  • Exploration of free, online resources that use TI-Nspire™ technology.
workshop-3-day
  • Deeper discussions of experimental and engineering design processes.
  • Additional strategies for engaging students in data collection and analysis.
  • Exploration of the role of technology in formative assessment.
