Solution 15402: Numeric Notation Modes on the TI-30X IIS/B, TI-30XS MultiView™ and TI-34 MultiView™ Scientific Calculators.
What are the numeric notation mode settings and their meanings on the TI-30X IIS/B, TI-30XS MultiView, and TI-34 MultiView?
Below are the numeric notation mode settings and their meanings on the TI-30X IIS/B, TI-30XS MultiView, and TI-34 MultiView.
The TI-30X IIS has (3) numeric notation modes - FLO, SCI, and ENG. The mode settings can be accessed by pressing [2nd] [SCI/ENG].
The TI-30XS MultiView has (3) numeric notation modes - NORM, SCI, and ENG. The mode settings can be accessed by pressing the [mode] key.
The TI-34 MultiView has (2) numeric notation modes - NORM and SCI. The mode settings can be accessed by pressing the [mode] key.
The meanings for each mode setting is listed below.
• FLO/NORM - default setting for the calculator's numeric notation mode. If possible, all solutions will be displayed in floating (FLO) point decimal or normal (NORM) notation.
• SCI - displays all solutions in scientific notation (if possible). The solution will be displayed as a value from 1 - 10 x 10 to an integer power.
• ENG displays all solutions in engineering notation (if possible). The solution will be displayed as a value from 1 - 1000 x 10 to an integer power. The integer power is always a multiple of 3.
