Algebra 1: Working Hard or Hardly Working?

by Texas Instruments

Overview

Students analyze univariate and bivariate data.

Key Steps

  • Image

Students begin by exploring univariate data. They will examine a histogram and a box plot of the commute time for workers in different US cities. From the data displays students will determine the mean and median.

Students will also explore bivariate data. From a survey on teachers’ ages versus the number of years they have been teaching, they will find a manual line of best fit and then calculate a linear regression.

Lastly, students will use the regression equation to answer questions about the data. They use the Solver command to determine the age of a teacher for various situations.
