Opportunities for Case Studies (Action Research)

Do you…
Have a "promising practice" way of using TI technology in grades 5-12?
Use TI technology to teach math or science effectively in a challenging setting?
Want to use data to validate, expand and share your innovation?
Need additional TI equipment temporarily for your study?
Want support to attend T³ International?
Texas Instruments Education Technology Group is committed to developing educational technology and services based on the best available research on effective instruction and improved student learning.

We support the nation's goal of evidence-based educational practice, which integrates professional wisdom with the best available scientifically based research in making decisions about how to deliver instruction.

As part of this vision, we recognize the value of teacher research (action research).  The goal of this action research is to document in case study form this professional wisdom: to provide practical, classroom level information about effective mathematics and science instruction, as a way of disseminating and expanding "promising practices."

Texas Instruments would like to help you do action research in your classroom.  We solicit proposals and studies about the effective use of our educational technology products, curriculum materials, and services and their impact on student achievement in grades 5-12.

We are particularly interested in teacher research projects that investigate use of TI-Nspire and TI-Navigator. However, we welcome all projects involving TI products, in a variety of subjects, grade levels 5-12, and in the full range of school settings, including those with special challenges.

Why should you do action research?  You may:
Need evidence to justify your school's investment in technology, or to convince your school to buy more.
Want to get a "jump start" on your expansion plans by borrowing TI hardware for use in your study, at no charge.
Want to share your work with your colleagues
If your project qualifies, TI can help. In recognition of your research, TI will publish successful project reports on our website. The top studies will be highlighted at sessions at the annual T³ International Conference, with TI providing support for travel expenses. We may also provide support on a case-by-case basis for publication in teacher journals, and presentations at educational conferences and workshops.

We make it easy. Usually, all you need to do is complete a questionnaire and gather relevant test scores.  At no cost, TI can help you analyze your data and write your report.  If you need extra equipment, we can loan it to you for your research project (of up to one semester), at no charge.

If you are interested in doing action research, or have an action research project currently under way, we would like to hear about it. Please let us know if you have questions or would like help with your action research project.
