Exploring with TI-Navigator and the TI-73 Explorer

Who should attend:
Those who desire to learn more about the features of TI-Navigator and the TI-73 Explorer to assist them in covering topics in middle school mathematics.

Note: Access to a computer lab is necessary for this institute.

Objectives:
Use technology to explore and investigate modes of teaching middle school mathematics
Experience problem solving situations that take advantage of the exploration/investigation mode of classroom interaction
Work through classroom ready activities that use TI-Navigator to enhance students’ understanding and problem solving ability
Develop teachers’ familiarity with TI-Navigator through hands-on explorations modeling effective classroom use of technology
Course Outline:
The main source of content for this course will be the activities from the Getting Started Guide, Getting Started with the TI-Navigator™ System: Middle Grades. This book will also be offered to participants of the institutes. These activities are classroom ready for teachers to implement right way!

Additional activities will be supplemented as determined by the instructor to suit the needs of the participants and the length of the institute. (3, 4 or 5 days)

Facilities Requirements:
This course can take place in a computer lab or a classroom with a mobile cart of laptops.  Each participant should have access to a computer. TI Navigator Software needs to be installed on the computers/laptops. The TI USB Connectivity Cable needs to be installed as new hardware as well. Ideally, users should have administrative privileges for the computers in the lab. Internet access should be available. 
Materials List:
The Organizer
The following is a list of equipment and materials that the organizer must provide:
High-intensity overhead projector with spare bulbs.
Overhead pens, supply of blank transparency sheets, dry-erase markers for white board if that type of board is used in the classroom, or chalk and erasers for a chalkboard.
Name tags for participants
An LCD projector and screen for use with a laptop computer, TI Presenter and/or TI Smartview.
The instructor may need the organizer to request that participants bring memory sticks/flash drives to save their work.
The T³ Office
The T³ Office will provide enough copies of Getting Started with the TI-Navigator™ System: Middle Grades, authored by Steve Oulette, for use with the TI-73 Explorer.

The instructor will arrange with Texas Instruments Workshop Loan Program (1-888-917-6411) to provide:
