| This prestigious award is to recognize educators who have exemplified the ideals of the T³ Program - that is, to enhance mathematics and science teaching and learning through the creative and enthusiastic application of handheld technology in their classrooms.
This year's awardees are Betty Gasque and Ed Laughbaum.
Betty Gasque
In the summer of 1989, Betty attended one of the three Precalculus institutes offered at Ohio State and had a "magical" experience. She recalls that mathematics teachers from all over the country were there to learn to teach with technology and were infused with "The Power of Visualization."
In the fall of 1989, Betty was one of the first in the state to begin teaching with graphing calculators in her precalculus class at Marion High School - the only public high school in a small town in South Carolina. The introduction of the TI-81 in 1991 was eagerly anticipated and Betty still remembers the excitement of opening the blue boxes. During the past 19 years, Betty has used graphing calculators and data collection devices in courses for high school students, college students, and in-service and pre-service teachers. She has participated in the development and revision of institute materials, including Algebra 1, Algebra 2, TI-InterActive!™, TI-Nspire™ learning technology, and lessons for social studies teachers. In looking back, Betty states, "I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to serve as a T³ instructor since the early days of the T³ program."

Betty enjoys living near her son David and his wife and three sons in Marion, SC.
Ed Laughbaum
Ed has taught mathematics at the college level for 35 years and at the high school level for five years. He has received several teaching awards on the local, state, and national levels.
Ed served on the writing team for the 1995 AMATYC Crossroads in Mathematics Standards, and was the technology and professional development section writer for the 2006 AMATYC Crossroads Re-visited Standards. Ed is the current editor of the Ohio Journal of School Mathematics, director of the AMATYC Outer Banks Summer Institute "Developmental Algebra Using a Function Approach," and participates on several Ohio Board of Regents and Ohio Department of Education committees and task forces. He served as the conference chair of the 2001 T³ International Conference, program chair for approximately eight T³ Regional Conferences, and held various positions on conferences in Canada, England, Slovenia, South Africa, and Austria. Ed has been a T³ College Short Course instructor since 1994.
He has authored over 50 publications in professional journals or by commercial publishers. He has given over 200 presentations at state, national, and international conferences.

Ed has been blissfully married to Nancy for 40 years and has two wonderful daughters Rachel and Jennifer, and two adorable granddaughters Regan & Rebecca.
