The T³ Leadership award is given annually. Awards are presented to
A T³ program participant
Organizer of a T³ event or
A T³ program Insructor
This prestigious award is to recognize educators who have exemplified the ideals of the T³ Program - that is, to enhance mathematics and science teaching and learning through the creative and enthusiastic application of handheld technology in their classrooms.

This year's awardees are Milton "Norm" Norman, Pam Giles, and John Hanna.

Milton "Norm" Norman

Millton "Norm" Norman was introduced to Bert Waits and Frank Demana in 1991 and participated in a class they taught in Norfolk, Virginia. He was thin invited by Bert and Frank to Ohio State to participate in the Transit Program. Inspired by both Bert and Frank and witnessed the power of visualization and its positive impact on teacher instruction and enhanced student learning. Norm participated in the writing and development of the initial T³ Workshops. He was qualified to teach a wide variety of T³ courses. Norm also have appeared in television productions including "Squares in Squares" PBS Video Featured on "Diversity and Equality" sponsored by NCTM, PBS, and NYU. He authored and appeared in "Algebra, Graphing Calculators" for Texas Instruments Algebra Video Series and the "Virginia Standards of Learning", series of six videos Broadcast on PBS for the Department of Education for the State of Virginia.

Norm was an inspiration to everyone that he came in contact with. His big smiles and hugs welcomed everyone in his path. He will be greatly missed by all. The award will go to Norm's wife Sandra and has three adult daughters, Dara, Enid, and Ria.

John Hanna

John Hanna's first exposure to graphing calculators came in June of 1991 when he (reluctantly) attended a 2-week CalcNet summer institute at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas organized by Greg Foley. The instructors included Frank Demana, Bert Waits, Tom Dick, and Greg. They worked with several different graphing calculators, but the TI-81 was the easiest to use. We also got a peek at the prototype TI-85s and my input to the developers actually made it into production, lending credence to the slogan "Teachers talk, TI listens". John took my experiences right back to the classroom that September with a class set of TI-81s in my AP Calculus class. He also got to meet many very gifted mathematics educators, many of whom are still very involved in the T³ organization.

The following summer John was invited to serve as a C2PC counselor at Ohio State and another in New Jersey. Presenting at conferences and getting involved in NCTM gave me the impetus to revitalize my interest in mathematics education, and the summer of 1993 found me teaching two T³ summer institutes as a new T³ Instructor. Since then he has been involved in many T³ writing teams, planning teams, and product developments including, most recently, TI-Navigator, TI SmartView, and the newest TI-84 Plus operating systems update. John is  also interested in calculator and computer programming and have developed several Windows applications for making life with the handhelds easier. In 2002 John was the recipient of the Radio Shack National Teacher Award.
