| John Brunsting has spent his entire educational career at Hinsdale Central High School, Hinsdale, Illinois beginning with student teaching in January of 1969. A mathematics teacher then department chair, John now serves as Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning. Over these same years his professional involvement has extended well beyond the halls of Hinsdale Central, contributing to mathematics education in regional and national spheres.
Motivated by a passion for teaching with technology and commitment to personal and staff development, Mr. Brunsting has worked with the "founding fathers" of Teachers Teaching with Technology to offer summer teacher training for the graphing calculator. Now planning ahead with his local MathTech team for the thirteenth summer Hinsdale Central's T³ institutes will again attract a national audience.
Mr. Brunsting has made mathematics/technology presentations at a variety of professional conferences: NCTM, NCSM, ICTM, MAA, and ASCD. He has been elected or appointed to positions in professional mathematics organizations, among them the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (board member), Advanced Placement Test Development Committee for Calculus, and Mathematics Department Heads of Western Chicago Suburbs (president).
John has previously a recipient of the Hinsdale Central High School's Professional Excellence Award, Argonne National Laboratories Outstanding Mathematics Teacher Award, MAA's Edythe May Sliffe Award, and AP Calculus Test Development Committee Distinguished Service recognition.
Betty Mayberry has taught at the junior high, high school, and college level since 1975. She has had constant support from her husband, Eddie Mayberry, for the last 28 years. She holds a bachelors and master degree in mathematics from Middle Tennessee State University and has pursued advance studies at Princeton, University of Chicago, and The Ohio State University. Those first few years at Ohio State changed her life and her career as she became involved with a new family of teachers: Teachers Teaching with Technology. Betty taught her first T³ workshop in Martin, Tennessee with Cathy Jahr who has been a very special friend and colleague. Betty was one of the Vice chairs for the NCTM Annual meeting held in Nashville, Tennessee. Hosting conferences for T has been a wonderful experience for her. She just keeps volunteering for more. Don't forget the Teachers Teaching with Technology International Conference is in Nashville in 2003.
Betty has served as a leader in mathematics education on a variety of state and national committees. In 1993 she was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in teaching of mathematics, as well as the Tandy Technology Scholar Award. She has been a speaker at countless national conferences and is the author of a textbook Precalculus: A Graphing Approach, published by Holt, Rinehart, and Winston.
Betty, Gallatin High School mathematics teacher, is President of the Tennessee Mathematics Teachers Association and President-Elect of the Council of Presidential Awardees of Mathematics. She has also been appointed head of the mathematics department at Pope John Paul II High School in Hendersonville, Tennessee beginning in July 2002.
