Reaching Common Ground in K-12 Mathematics Education
In recent years, there has been disagreement among various groups and experts about the best ways to teach mathematics in K-12 education.  These mathematics leaders have reached agreement on several positions that will enable the conversation to move forward.  This short paper outlines their common understanding of key issues in math education.  The paper was prepared by a key group of mathematicians and mathematics educators, facilitated by Dr. Richard Schaar, Senior Consultant, Math and Science Policy at Texas Instruments.  This project was funded by a National Science Foundation grant administrated by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA).  Texas Instruments was pleased to provide support for this project.
