| DALLAS (April 1, 2009) – Hundreds of math teachers from across the nation raised more than $15,000 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure in an auction held at a recent Texas Instruments education conference, Teachers Teaching with Technology, also known as T3. Corey Boby, a math coordinator in Benton, Ark., and the coordinator of this year’s auction, presented the donation to local Komen representatives Friday, March 27 at TI’s Dallas offices.
“Five years ago the T3 instructors started holding a silent auction as a way to give back to the community,” said Boby, the secondary math coordinator at Benton Public Schools and organizer of the 2009 auction. “This year was especially close to our hearts, since one of our fellow instructors was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Everyone gave in their own way. I’m proud to be a part of this wonderful organization, and I’m especially thankful for the support offered from Texas Instruments.”
The Math instructors raised the money recently during a dinner and silent auction at the T3 (Teachers Teaching with Technology) International Conference in Seattle. They bid on more than 200 donated items, from vintage TI calculators to candy handmade from attendees’ hometowns.
“It is truly an honor for TI to be part of this group of outstanding teachers who are so generous with their colleagues and their students,” said Melendy Lovett, president of Texas Instruments Education Technology. “TI is lucky to work with such a caring group of teachers who not only give of themselves in the classroom every day, but care about the community around them. I want to congratulate and thank all the teachers who participated.”
Elizabeth Chandler, corporate relations manager, and Brittney Dellinger, corporate relations specialist at Komen headquarters accepted the check on behalf of the organization.
“Susan G. Komen for the Cure is thankful for the T³ International Conference attendees work to raise awareness about this disease. Through our Passionately Pink program, Texas Instruments was able to support one of their own, while supporting our mission to save lives and end breast cancer forever,” said Katrina McGhee, vice president of global partnerships at Komen for the Cure.
This was the largest amount raised to date by the T3 instructors.
