Grab-and-Move

Make changes, observe relationships and try new approaches.

“Grab-and-move” the various properties of a graphed function, as well as the dimensions of a graph itself, to discover mathematical relationships and patterns.

“Grab” a point, line or graph, for example, and “move” it to see the effect of changes, in real time. As a result, the corresponding equations of each function or the coordinates of a point will update automatically through the dynamic linking feature, which is effective for identifying patterns key to conceptual learning. Such interactive feedback can help students explore insightful “what if” scenarios. Grab-and-move the x-axis and y-axis by the end-points and scale as desired. In the example below, the curve of a graphed function widens as the x-axis is moved out. When the x-axis is moved in, the curve narrows.
